Is It Over Yet?

Monday morning couldn’t come sooner for those who had to deal with the Art Basel influx.  Yet, many of us practically live for Miami’s weeklong immersion into all things art, parties, and cultured experiences— we’re already planning for next year.

So this week, we’re inspired by a few life lessons from Art Basel 2018:

Art is for Everyone. . .  So long as you have a ticket, a hook-up, or end up at a free show!  Your level of expertise, back account, hometown, or resume don’t factor in your ability to access or experience art — shouldn’t the same hold true for innovation?  As you stay on the lookout for 2019 monthly themes, know that  next year we’re doubling down on our goal of ensuring Innovation is for Everyone.

Eccentric is trending.  From the out-of-this-world outfits to next-level people watching, we learned that conforming,  playing safe and small to avoid standing out is so outdated.  Thinking outside the box is a hallmark of problem solving (no, really, it’s actually a right-brain activity).  So as you attempt to tackle thorny issues, instead of relying on experts, consultants or researchers, tap into your creative outlet through a design challenge or good ol’ fashioned team colouring party.  How do you

Lie, often.  This one might seem controversial, so stay with us here.  Picasso, better known for his art work, is often quoted for the ism, “art is a lie that makes us realize the truth . . ”  Particularly striking from the various art fairs this year is an elevated level of social commentary and the showing of pieces which disrupt the narrative of what form of art belongs or should be included.  How is your work uncovering truth?

Jam the traffic. . Visual art offers a special connective experience between the viewer and piece on display.  (I can’t tell you how many pieces seemed to speak directly to me, but my wallet simply disagreed).  It also offers collective connection opportunities for folks who may have nothing else in common save for their personal  interpretation of each piece. The 70,000+ Baselers in town present a host of opportunities for these unique connection experiences.  In what ways do you make new connections ?

Start by joining us for the LAST #ThursdayGathering of the year.  We’ll have a great breakout sessions and an open mic to share your #VCMConnects stories.

Cheers,
