Coding for Good | Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida

June 13 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Never got to earn a Girl Scouts badge as a kid? Now’s your chance! Through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, girls gain important skills in four areas: STEM, Entrepreneurship, Outdoors and Life Skills. Join this interactive session to learn basic coding skills for an online video game and earn your own Girl Scouts STEM badge!

Girl Scouts is the preeminent leadership development organization for girls. We believe in the power of every G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™ to change the world, and our programs offer each one a chance to practice a lifetime of leadership, adventure, and success. Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida was founded in 1923 and currently serves 3,500 girls in grades K-12 from every residential zip code of Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. Through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, girls gain important skills in four areas: STEM, Entrepreneurship, Outdoors and Life Skills.

Research shows that girls are keenly interested in STEM and excel at it. Yet, as early as elementary school, girls begin opting out of future careers in STEM. Girl Scouts is working to change this by exposing girls to meaningful STEM experiences and adding 2.5 million girls to the STEM pipeline by 2025. In this session you’ll learn about one of our newest Girl Scout STEM programs including the Coding for Good badge where girls from Kindergarten to 12th grade create computer programs, games, and apps that solve problems and help others. Join this interactive session where you will participate in a coding activity and earn your own Girl Scouts STEM badge.
